This morning in Jerusalem, for the first time in a long time, it was cold. And windy. People were actually wearing light jackets and sweaters! You could feel that winter, though it hasn’t yet arrived, is seriously considering its approach. It makes sense, too, since next week in Israel we’ll begin saying V’tein tal u’matar livracha in Shemoneh Esrei, asking Hashem for our much-needed rain.

For families trying to live on a limited budget, the arrival of a new season brings more than a change in the weather. It means new questions and added expenses: What will the kids need over the next few weeks for clothing? Or school? How will we cover the extra costs of this upcoming holiday, or the simcha in a few weeks, on top of the regular household bills? 
Just as one set of expenses is taken care of, another comes along.

Each season brings its own needs, and finding room for them in an already tight budget is a source of severe anxiety.
At B’ezri, we know that a family’s necessities don’t begin or end with a single holiday or season. So our work continues throughout the year, helping families meet the costs that come with each stage of the calendar.

From summer to the High Holidays

As families prepare for Yom Tov, the cost of food and other holiday necessities adds to their regular household expenses. B’ezri’s High Holiday assistance helps families get ready for a new year, able to celebrate with a full table and their needs met. 

From the High Holidays to winter

When the weather turns cold (and it gets bitterly cold in Israel) families need warm coats and blankets. Through our Winter Warmth campaign, B’ezri provides these. This year, we placed an order for 23,600 coats well in advance, which will arrive any day so we can get our countrywide distributions going a.s.a.p.. Winter also brings Chanukah, when parents want to make the holiday festive for their children. B’ezri helps cover added expenses for these eight days so their holiday, too, will also be filled with light.

From winter to spring

Then comes Purim. Our Matanos L'evyonim program ensures families have what they need for a dignified seuda and a dignified holiday. Pesach quickly follows, one of the most expensive (and potentially stressful) times of the year. B’ezri’s Pesach assistance helps cover the many added costs of preparing for Yom Tov so families can continue to manage their everyday bills.

From spring to summer

We help families with Shavuot costs and when school lets out, we're there too. Household routines change, but the expenses increase. B’ezri’s Summer Relief campaign helps families manage costs of camp, higher food bills and additional needs as they arise, alleviating the strain that parents feel over the long weeks of summer.

Here for every season

And then, before you know it, the cycle begins again.
That's not to mention the emergencies or challenges that unfortunately appear along the way, which we help with, too. Thankfully there are simchas that we can step in for as well. 

At B’ezri, we are always planning ahead to help all kinds of families (including IDF soldiers, single mothers and almanos) through these holidays, changing seasons, and unexpected challenges. 
Because while we can’t predict exactly when the weather will turn or what the next season will bring, we can make sure that families don’t have to face difficult expenses alone.
