Divorced mothers. Families affected by war & other challenges. Almanos.
This summer they need our help!
The phrase “summer vacation” conjures up images of the shining sun, ice cream, family trips, laughter and smiling faces…
There's a stark difference though, between those happy images and reality for thousands of impoverished families in Israel -
this year, especially.
October 7 war trauma ... single parenthood … unemployment … illness & medical expenses … increased (yet again) costs of living …
are just some of the numerous reasons they are barely scraping by.
The Rising Lions war with Iran worsened an already-difficult situation for so many. Countless parents were unable to work, children were home, expenses and debt soared, thousands lost their homes and belongings. Government aid has yet to kick in and parents are scrambling just to cover basic necessities.
For all types of struggling families, this summer is one of crisis.
- Kaytanot* and childcare costs are out of reach - but without them, parents can’t work. And without income, there’s no food on the table or electricity to keep the air conditioning or a simple fan (for those who don’t even have a/c) running.
- Without structure & the safe framework of school, kids are at greater risk of turning to the streets. Needy children are also at risk of the "summer slide"- falling behind in reading and math skills, a widespread phenomenon prevalent in impoverished households.
Summer in poverty is a season of standstill, malnutrition and vulnerability. But as one of the biggest Jewish charities that help the poor,
American Friends of Yad Eliezer/B’ezri works to combat this through our Summer Relief Campaign.
We will bring that relief - for food, camp fees and other urgent needs over the long, expensive summer to:
•1800 Grushos (divorced mothers) who struggle alone, largely ignored and unsupported, to provide for their children
•1800 families battling illness, unemployment, conflict, injury, war-related trauma or any number of obstacles
•850 Almanos, coping with loss and financial challenges while trying to raising their families
We are distributing over $1.4 million in aid to 4450 families,
to help them get through one of the hardest times of the year!
For a summer of stability, normalcy and dignity, they really need our support.
