Help us remove difficult choices this winter.
Poverty inside the home...
Did you know that most apartments in Israel are poorly insulated, if at all? It gets very cold very quickly
inside! Leaks in the home are also common, with moisture and harmful mold rapidly damaging walls and ceilings. Average Israeli families fight these effects by turning on the heat, snuggling under warm blankets and calling in a repairman when necessary.
It’s an entirely different story for
needy Israeli families. The winter is unbearable when they can’t afford to pay their electric bill to keep the heat on, or patch the leaks in order to live in a respectable environment. Quilts are expensive and countless families resort to using layers of towels as blankets to try to keep warm.
...and out
Going outside is another challenge. A good winter coat is a huge expense for a poor family, especially one that has multiple children. Some wintry days, children from needy backgrounds can’t venture out at all for lack of a coat, even to go to school.
Parents of these families are constantly faced with impossible choices: keeping the heat on for a few hours a day or buying their children a proper coat or blanket, or giving up on either, in order to buy groceries.
Driven to alleviate their worry and suffering through our Winter Warmth Campaign, as one of the most effective Jewish charity organizations, we began preparing months ago so we can bring relief to parents and children in time for the winter cold and rain.
Due to increased need this year
we are distributing an unprecedented
6,000 young women's coats (at a cost of $27 each)
7,300 boys' winter coats and 7,300 for girls ($22). Our distribution also includes
10,000 thick quilts ($15). Thanks to a San Diego foundation and a Brooklyn donor, we secured a large portion of our order in advance, which qualified us for a discounted cost.
You will make a difference in so many lives, bringing smiles and incredible relief to families as new coats are put on for venturing outside during the day and nights are made warm with thick, new blankets. These items seem simple, but they're
life altering and bring unbelievable happiness to those so desperately in need.
Please help us help these families, so they won't have to make such difficult choices this year.
Due to your generosity, last year we distributed over 10,200 thick winter coats and 10,000 heavy blankets to the poor.
This year we can distribute even more - but costs are high. We need your support!
