Help us remove difficult choices this winter.
Winter's in the air and needy families are nervous.
The
inside of a typical Israeli apartment is frigid during the winter, with leaks and moisture common throughout the home. Average families can manage by turning on the heat, using warm blankets and having repairs made. But needy families “get through” the winter differently. The cost of electricity for heat or quality home repairs is unaffordable. Good quilts are out of the question. So families suffer in the cold, doing their best to keep warm at night under layers of towels and worn blankets.
And
outside the house? A good winter coat is a major expense for poor households, especially those with several children. Many kids stay home from school on very cold days simply because they don’t have one.
Struggling parents are constantly faced with impossible choices: keeping the heat on for a few hours or splurging on a proper child’s coat. Buying a blanket or buying enough groceries. Choosing which child gets to wear the one good coat the family owns.
Choices like these are made even harder by the ongoing impact of war. The news may talk about a ceasefire but the conflict still affects Israeli citizens- with skyhigh prices for basic needs...fathers still in miluim...parents still struggling with job loss...the effects of trauma and displacement...
Costs of winter just add additional stress to needy families’ lives.
Driven to alleviate their suffering through our Winter Warmth Campaign, as one of the most effective Jewish charity organizations, we began preparing months ago,
ordering high quality coats & blankets at discounted costs so we can bring relief to parents and children in time for the winter cold and rain.
With so many families in crisis, this year we'll allocate 9,116 girls' coats, 8,400 for boys (at a cost of $22 each) and
7,500 for young women and mothers ($27 each). Our distribution also includes
12,000 thick quilts ($15). These "simple" items are
life altering and bring immeasurable happiness to those who need them most.
"There is no way to describe the simcha that fills the heart of a child who wears a brand new coat - a warm one that is well made - not a hand me down, or one that is used..." (Rivka M., mother of 4, at last year's coat distribution)
Please help us help these families, so they won't have to make such difficult choices this year.
Costs are high. So is the demand. We need your support!
