Shockingly, some families in Israel are so poor, they don't think about extras. They need funds to nourish their families with the most basic of foods. Regular staples such as bread and milk stretch thin, and children often go hungry. They lack necessary energy to do well in school and experience normal childhood. Baby bottles are diluted to unhealthy amounts; each feeding with only a fraction of the calories recommended by doctors. Bread is rationed in small amounts, not nearly enough to satisfy growing children. This terrible hunger causes extreme discomfort now and untold anguish years down the line.

Bread and Milk was established in 2013 to ease the pressure of struggling families. Just like the simplicity of its name, Bread and Milk focuses on the basics - ensuring that no child will go hungry. Hundreds of children remember lying in bed wishing for just one more piece of bread. Today these same children happily end their days with full stomachs and a sense of security. Their parents are relieved of a huge burden as well.

Bread and Milk recipients are carefully screened to ensure that every dollar goes to a family in dire need. They shop for regular groceries and have the bread and milk put on a seperate account paid fully by American Friends of Yad Eliezer | B'ezri. These families then notify us when they get a new source of income, enabling us to move on to the next name on the waiting list.
