Life Moves Forward, But the Struggle Remains
Daily Routines Resume, but Families Are Still Fighting to Keep Up
Sunday, April 12, 2026
Following an incredible Pesach campaign, in which we distributed - thanks to our donors -
- $1.2 million in aid to 2,100 needy families including 600 divorced mothers
- $1.15 million to 800 Almanos in our keren-who received a holiday stipend in addition to their monthly stipend
- $500,000 in help to 2,580 struggling IDF soldiers
Yom Tov is now behind us. After weeks of cleaning and kashering, cooking, shopping, endless preparations,
and of course, sirens, explosions, bomb shelter trips and other products of war families across Israel are trying to return to familiar routines.
Life is supposed to settle back into the rythm of daily life (work, school, errands and normal schedules) despite the ongoing effects of this latest conflict, which have taken their toll on all Israelis.
For average families, unexpected bills, increased costs of living, disrupted routines, even lost workdays due to school cancellations are difficult, yet temporary setbacks. Over time, households are usually able to absorb losses and regain their footing. Vulnerable families, though, live with no financial cushion. When income is interrupted and expenses accumulate, the consequences often snowball, setting them back even further and making recovery far more difficult.
Families also feel forgotten - the major Pesach campaigns have finished. Public attention shifts elsewhere. And while families try to return to some kind of "normal" like everyone else, behind closed doors, they're dealing with severe hardship - unable to keep up.
Food prices are painfully high. Children need new shoes and seasonal clothing that parents can't afford. Medications, school fees, utilities and other household necessities remain out of reach - overwhelming families who are already stretched beyond their limits. The last 2.5 years of upheaval, displacement, reserve duty, economic instability and other burdens of war continue to threaten the daily functioning in homes of countless families.
We haven't forgotten them, though. The country is back in action, and
AFYE/B'ezri is, too.
Back to the phone calls.
The applications for help.
The heartbreaking situations we try so hard to ease.
