The Countdown Has Begun

Amid uncertainty, B’ezri swiftly prepares thousands for the year’s costliest Yom Tov

Thursday, March 05, 2026

Almost to the minute Purim celebrations end, the focus across Israel shifts instantly to Pesach. The actual holiday may still be weeks away, but it feels as if there is no pause in between. Costumes are packed away and the collective mindset turns to cleaning, shopping, and preparing for Yom Tov.

This year, however, preparations have unfolded against the backdrop of renewed conflict - the latest war with Iran. The upheaval (including constant sirens and rushed trips to sit in bomb shelters) has affected everyone, but especially the countless families who were already struggling to make ends meet due to rising costs of living and expenses both connected to war and otherwise. The latest uncertainty and disrupted routines have only deepened the challenges facing Israel’s most vulnerable households.

Just as the nation pivots almost instantly from Purim to Pesach - with no time to catch its breath before planning for what is widely known as the most expensive holiday of the year - B'ezri, too, has made that same immediate shift. We are already working to ensure thousands of vulnerable families can welcome in the Yom Tov, prepared.

In order to accomplish this we have significant preparations of our own. In the coming weeks, we will distribute maos chittim in the form of supermarket gift cards valued between 500 - 1000 NIS (depending on family size and situation) to 2,580 needy IDF soldiers. B'ezri is also providing holiday stipends for the 800 almanos in our Widows & Orphans Fund beyond their monthly stipends, totaling $1 million. We will allocate $200,000 in aid to 600 grushos (divorced mothers). And an additional 2,800 struggling families will receive $1 million in maos chittim to help cover their Pesach needs.

For each of these individuals and families, the support means more than financial relief. It means being able to sit at a set Seder table surrounded by loved ones. It means filling their homes with the warmth and traditions of Pesach. It means celebrating freedom with dignity and peace of mind.

As the countdown to Pesach continues, B'ezri remains committed to ensuring that families are not left behind. What gets us to our goals is the committed support of our donors. Together, we can help thousands experience a truly meaningful and joyous holiday.
