Bat mitzvah project brings joy to Keren Almanos families

Wednesday, November 05, 2025

B’ezri’s Keren Almanos program, an $8+ million initiative, provides critical monthly stipends to widows throughout Israel, helping them cover ongoing household expenses and maintain family stability. Beyond the monthly financial assistance, though, the program also offers additional support for unique needs such as a home repair, medical or dental care, replacement of broken furniture, children’s weddings, or summer/holiday expenses (just to name a few). Our devoted staff is in constant contact with the almanos, always available to respond to a need or request-or simply to provide a listening ear.

This personal attention, combined with financial stability, offers the almanos an invaluable sense of connection, reminding each woman that she is not alone. The program also includes forward-thinking projects that bring the almanos and their families tremendous comfort.

A recent bat mitzvah initiative, led by a young girl from Jerusalem, is one such example. Wanting to add a level of chesed to her own celebration, Ayala and her parents sponsored spa-themed gift packages for 27 girls who were becoming bat mitzvahs as well, and whose mothers are part of the keren.

Each girl was gifted a specially ordered bath towel personalized with her name, slippers and hair brush, plus chocolates and a custom-made gift card. Ayala and her friends visited the B’ezri office to assemble the packages, which are now being delivered to girls across Israel. The project aimed to bring joy and connection to the recipients, showing them that there are people who care and are looking out for them.

The modest initiative is making a major impact. One mother messaged: “My daughter just got back from school and was so excited to see the package that was delivered specifically for her. What a nice surprise to come home to. This really made her happy- I can’t thank you enough!” Another commented: “My daughter keeps saying that no one cares about her becoming a bat mitzvah. This shows her the exact opposite…”

While financial assistance remains at the heart of the Keren Almanos, it is the personal touch and warmth behind every chesed that make a lasting difference. Every act that helps members of these families show them that they are seen - and that is extremely powerful. Through initiatives both large and small, the Keren Almanos continues to strengthen and support widows and their children, one thoughtful gesture at a time.
