Four Years Later, AFYE/B’ezri’s Meron Crisis Relief Fund

...Still Provides Support

Thursday, May 08, 2025

We haven’t forgotten.

This Lag Ba’Omer marks four years since the tragic Meron disaster that claimed 45 lives and left countless others forever changed. American Friends of Yad Eliezer/B’ezri launched the Meron Crisis Relief Campaign mere hours following the tragedy, to provide both immediate and long-term support to the victims and their families. Donor response was swift and generous, with the fund playing a critical role during those first especially painful months. It is support that has continued over these last four years, non-stop.

Though the headlines have faded, AFYE/B’ezri is well aware that the families’ needs have not. Through the Meron Emergency Fund we have distributed over $1.3 million in aid that includes current monthly assistance for 12 almanos to help ease the expenses of daily life, so they can keep their families (many of whom were needy even before the tragedy) stable. In addition, the fund covers essential one-time expenses for families affected by the accident. This ranges from therapy sessions and psychological evaluations to pre-Yom Tov support for families still facing financial strain, help with weddings and bar mitzvahs and other necessities as they arise.

The fund also supports two boys who were critically injured at Meron. Both suffered serious trauma, one of whom remains non-responsive-requiring full-time, round-the-clock care at home. Their families continue to face overwhelming medical, emotional, and financial challenges. AFYE/B’ezri assists with healthcare needs, home adaptations, special equipment, travel for treatment, and other expenses related to the accident and its far-reaching ramifications.

Time may have passed but we know the challenges haven’t remotely ended. The families still struggle and the need is still real.
You can help us continue to be their support and their safety net, four years later, and for as long as they need us.

Together we can send the message that the Meron families are not forgotten.
