Now Feed A Baby is Even Better

New method stretches dollars further, making more babies happier

American Friends of Yad Eliezer has been distributing Materna baby formula to tens of thousands of struggling Israeli families over the years, through our Feed A Baby program. We understand that the high cost of formula is prohibitive for needy parents and, when left with no options, they will sometimes resort to watering it down to make it stretch further. This unsafe practice affects a child’s weight gain and creates electrolyte imbalances, among other detrimental effects. It can have lifelong consequences for children including causing impaired physical growth and cognitive development, behavioral problems and high rates of chronic illnesses.

So Feed A Baby has been instrumental in providing families with the right amount of formula for their babies, keeping them fed and satiated, while ensuring their nutritional needs are met.

Until recently, cases of formula were shipped to parents throughout the country each month with our own delivery trucks-an effective way to bring families the help they needed. But following American Friends of Yad Eliezer's new partnership with B'ezri, we have reconfigured our program to work even more effectively. Now parents are provided with vouchers they can use at the store branch of their choice to purchase Materna. This method, while being more convenient and dignified for parents (as they can shop on their own schedules and don't have to wait for a delivery) also uses our funds more wisely. Not only do we purchase vouchers at a discount, they take the place of warehouse costs, delivery trucks, gas and drivers, saving thousands of dollars- money that can be used to grow the program and feed additional babies.
