We still remember.

This Lag Ba’Omer marks five years since the devastating Meron tragedy, in which 45 people lost their lives, many were seriously injured (including some whose lives are now completely altered), others were affected emotionally and still others are impacted in additional ways. Within hours of the disaster, AFYE/B’ezri established the Meron Crisis Relief Campaign to address both urgent and ongoing needs. The response from donors was immediate and generous, providing crucial assistance during the earliest and most painful period. Five years may have passed but that hasn't impacted our work - we are still helping families.

AFYE/B'ezri remains acutely aware that their hardships persist. Through the Meron Emergency Fund, more than $1.3 million has been distributed to date. This includes ongoing monthly support for 12 widows, helping them manage everyday expenses and maintain stability for their families - many of whom were already facing financial challenges before the tragedy. The fund also helps cover essential costs, such as therapy and psychological care, holiday assistance for those under financial strain, and support for milestones like weddings and bar mitzvahs, along with other pressing needs as they arise.

Additionally, the fund continues to assist two boys who were severely injured in the disaster. Both endured significant trauma; one remains unresponsive and requires continuous, full-time care at home. Their families are still coping with immense medical, emotional, and financial burdens. AFYE/B’ezri provides help with medical care, necessary home modifications, specialized equipment, travel for treatment, and other related expenses stemming from the long-term impact of their injuries.

The difficulties these families face are far from over. The need remains ongoing and very real.
With your help, we can continue to stand by them - offering stability and support not only now, but for as long as it’s needed.
Together, we can ensure that even though public awareness has diminished, the families affected by Meron are never forgotten by AFYE/B'ezri and its donors.
