brown shipping boxes of games in an office

Can You Guess Where This Is?

And what's inside?

If you walked into the Be’zri office Thursday morning, you might have stopped at the door and wondered if you were in the right place. The walls were hidden and nearly every inch of space was filled - wall to wall, floor to ceiling - with brown shipping boxes (it was so crowded, taking an accurate picture was pretty challenging) .It felt less like an office and more like a small warehouse… or maybe something in between.

But inside these boxes was something special.
Two thousand games: Twist and Shpring Dance Mats and the Zig Zug word game - packed and ready to be distributed to 1,000 families in communities throughout Israel.

As the day went on, one by one, the volunteer gabbaei tzedakah we work with began to arrive. Each came to pick up the games for their own community, determined to make sure they would reach families in time for the first night of Chanukah. And sure enough, before day's end the office slowly began to clear. Amid a downpour, games were loaded into cars, vans and trunks, to begin their journey to cities throughout the country where they are being distributed to needy households.

The Chanukah gifts are popular games every family would love to have - items that bring excitement and laughter into the living room. They're extra special because the families receiving them are doing everything they can just to stay functional and keep up with daily needs. As much as they would love to, extras for Chanukah usually aren’t possible.

So B'ezri is there.

In addition to meeting essential needs-helping pay the electric bill, filling the refrigerator with food, ensuring kids have good winter coats (and many, many other necessities), we firmly believe that joy matters too - especially on holidays like Chanukah.

Today, erev chag, the office is pretty much back to normal. The boxes are gone and there's room to walk again. But it's great to know that the clear space means there will be a thousand families opening gifts tonight and celebrating a Chanukah that is, hopefully, just a bit happier.

Chanukah is just starting. There's lots of time to help us bring even more joy to more families!
