FEED-A-BABY FOR JUST $1 A DAY

Infant Malnutrition

Research studies all over the world have reported a number of staggering effects of malnutrition in infancy including impaired growth and cognitive development, behavior problems, higher rates of chronic illnesses such as diabetes, heart disease and thyroid dysfunction, and poor physical stamina. High school students who were malnourished as babies are more likely to drop out of school, and if they do remain, their grades will suffer. But that is the good news. The bad news is that some malnourished babies will never study in high school. Lacking essential sustenance, their immune systems do not function properly, and many of the childhood illnesses that pass uneventfully in healthy children can cause the death of malnourished infants.

With a third of Israeli children living below the poverty line and going to bed hungry on a regular basis, Israel is in danger. What will happen when these children become the adults, and a third of the population of Israel suffers from the debilitating long term effects of infantile malnutrition?

For just a dollar a day, you can make a difference.

Yad Eliezer Keren Eliyahu V'Esther Baby Fund

The Yad Keren Eliyahu V'Esther Feed-a-Baby Program began in 1989- when we met Ora. Ora was unable to nurse, and so had turned to baby formula- an item beyond the food budge for an impoverished mother.

To postpone having to purchase any more, she kept adding water to the remaining powder. She brought her severely malnourished baby to us and begged for our help. We found many more mothers diluting infant formula...to forstall the need for the next can. And so our baby food program was born.

Today, Yad Eliezer's Feed-a-Baby Program cares specifically for those infants whose mothers are unable to nurse and cannot afford to purchase formula. We provide over 2,000 hungry babies with the proper nourishment to develop into healthy children.

The program is carefully monitored to ensure that it does not become a substitute for nursing. Infant recipients include children of sick mothers, malnourished mothers, and mothers who are simply overwhelmed by life and urgently need your help.
