Coats and quilts are reaching families across the country

B'ezri's Winter Warmth distributions are currently taking place in 90 locations across Israel - by day and by night - ensuring families have the protection they need against the cold. From large distributions in yeshivos, schools, shuls and community centers to smaller ones in private homes, the variety of distributions are a powerful nod to the variety of communities who rely on us and a powerful reminder that winter does not pause - so neither can we.

What many people outside Israel don’t realize is how frigid it becomes inside Israeli homes. Due to stone construction, the cold penetrates walls and windows and lingers, even when the weather outside is more mild. In mountainous cities like Jerusalem and Tzfat especially, apartments can become uninhabitable without heat. For families struggling with rising living costs, often compounded by illness, loss, or family upheaval, keeping the house warm and the family comfortable is a daunting task. Good quilts to sleep under at night are essential to keep a home at a functional level.

But winter hardship doesn’t end at the doorstep. Children head to school each morning in the cold, and mothers spend long days running from place to place, taking care of their families’ needs. Between time spent outdoors and exposure to blustery weather, a reliable winter coat is often the only barrier against the chill. In Israel’s winter conditions, a good coat is not a luxury - it is indispensable. 

In anticipation of this year's distributions, which include coats for both children and young mothers, and need at all time highs due to ongoing war-related economic upheaval and soaring costs of living, last spring we placed our largest Winter Warmth coat order to date -  about 26,000! Our early planning ensured they arrived in Israel at the perfect time, just as the winter weather began to settle in. These distributions of both coats and quilts are a true lifeline for families who are scraping by and doing everything they can to keep their households stable through the many weeks of cold and rain still ahead.
