American Friends of Yad Eliezer now partners with B'ezri
It's unimaginable that we are approaching two years since October 7th-two years of war and fear, suffering, trauma and other numerous challenges. Though we are at the height of summer, AFYE/B'ezri is already preparing for the High Holidays which will arrive in the blink of an eye.
Families of IDF soldiers have been trying their best to stay calm and stay functional during this difficult time. But needy IDF families have been affected further. In homes where soldiers often bring in extra earnings (due to part time jobs), the loss of supplemental income worsens their family's need.
Debt accumulated during the two-week war with Iran in June (stemming from parents’ inability to work, displacement, and related challenges), the absence of miluim parents at home, soaring prices for food and other essentials, added expenses from injuries and medical bills, and ongoing disruptions in social service programs have all contributed to the worsening of these families’ circumstances.
Yehuda and Yael T., parents of 12 children (ten under age 18) are just one example of an IDF family in need. Their eldest son Yosef (20) was seriously injured in the war, losing a leg and suffering neurological damage; he is now in outpatient rehab. The T.'s faced major expenses making their home accessible. Yehuda, a farmer, was only recently able to go back to work. Yael is a homemaker. Their income decreased drastically since the war's outset. In addition to Yosef's needs, the other children also require mental health support after months of trauma.
There are soldiers from single parent homes, their mothers or fathers struggling to buy groceries.
Lone soldiers who come home to empty apartments.
Hospitalized soldiers whose expenses at home are accumulating. The list goes on.
American Friends of Yad Eliezer/B'ezri is determined, as we are every year, to help as many as we can for the High Holidays, a time of year that is especially difficult.
Our program, increased for the second year due to overwhelming need, is reaching out to 3,360 soldiers: 2,700 in sadir (regular service) plus another 660 in miluim (reserve units).
Thankfully a generous U.S. foundation has once again offered to match our funds-with $250,000 we raise, they will boost us to $500,000 in aid, to help us achieve our goal.
We have a long way to go and generous donor support is critical.
We all want to ensure our dedicated soldiers, who risk their lives for us every day, can bring in the new year with dignity.
Please join us so we can get the job done!
