trip for almanos

“I couldn’t have dreamed of an experience like this…”

Yad Eliezer’s Widows and Orphans Fund creates an unforgettable experience for 140 women

Sunday, March 01, 2020

Participating in an exciting, activity-filled, ofttimes emotional mini vacation to Eilat was something that Zahava P. could never have imagined up until a few weeks ago. An almana and mother of three children (one of whom is a cancer patient), Zahava has her hands full on a daily basis and really struggles to provide for her family. Taking any kind of trip was something she could only dream of. But it was indeed an event that she and 139 other women enrolled in Yad Eliezer’s Keren Almanos were able to experience recently.

Not a run of the mill trip

The five day excursion was jam packed morning to evening, with activities including music nights led by female performers, art workshops, sailing and visiting Eilat’s underwater observatory. Time slots were also designated for lounging at the beach and poolside. The women, many of whom arrived by a chartered flight, were astounded at the variety of activities available to them, and the quality of service and amenities to which they were treated.

Reciting Sefer Tehillim-an exceptional activity

But the trip wasn’t limited to physical activities. Guest Rabbi lecturers spoke to the group and one evening, the women participated in a Tehillim reading event which was especially meaningful. “Each woman completed the whole Sefer Tehillim” recalls one attendee, “there were 140 people there, so we completed the whole Sefer Tehillim 140 times! It was an experience like no other...something I’ll never forget.”

Reactions: in their own words

“The truth is, I don’t know where to start, how to express my gratitude for the incredible gift you’ve given me by bringing me on this holiday...”

“Daily life has been extremely challenging and often difficult these past few months. This trip has brought me such menuchas hanefesh and menuchas haguf”

“My batteries have been recharged-I can now go back to regular life with renewed strength”

“I enjoyed every minute-yasher koach gadol-thank you for helping me, which in turn helps my family…”

This year’s Keren Almanos trip to Eilat was an astounding success. The experience was truly life altering, one that will not soon be forgotten.

Yad Eliezer’s Keren Almanos reaches out to help every almana in Israel who has children living at home. From providing monthly stipends that help cover costs of raising families, to specific financial aid in case of emergencies (or better yet, simchas), from small gifts at holiday time to experiences that bring comfort and joy throughout the year, the program takes into consideration, the needs of almanos in every aspect of their lives.
