We know there is hashgacha pratit* behind every single thing we do. But there are just some moments when we feel it extra strongly - so extra clearly - that it leaves us speechless. This is one of those stories.
A Life Carried Alone
Liat S. is a divorced mother who has been carrying an extraordinary burden for many years - raising her four children alone with super-strength, serving as their sole provider. Liat works full-time in a grocery store, earning a modest salary that barely covers rent and the most basic household expenses. Despite Liat’s relentless efforts, though, debts have slowly grown - bank loans, debts to gemachim, and daily expenses have accumulated over the years.
When Simcha Meets Strain
Just a few months ago, Liat married off one of her twin sons. It was a bracha to be making a simcha, but it also pushed her financial situation even further to the brink. And then, shortly after the wedding, intensifying matters, Liat’s second twin got engaged. His wedding was scheduled for last Monday night.
Doing Everything Possible - And Still Falling Short
Liat once again stepped up to do the best she could to provide. But as the wedding date approached, the pressure grew with every expense - the hall, food, clothing, and other basic wedding necessities… she did everything possible to minimize costs, but the numbers simply did not add up.
A First Lifeline of Support
Liat approached B’ezri for help in anticipation of the wedding, and thankfully we were able to assist her with 5,000 NIS, which offered her some breathing room that brought her vital emotional support and a bit of reassurance. She was very grateful.
An Unexpected Turn
Here’s where the story starts to get more interesting. Shortly afterward, a donor contacted us, offering to sponsor the wedding of a needy family on the same Monday night through Adopt a Wedding. Several families were celebrating that evening so a hagrala (a drawing) was held (we do this in cases like these). Liat’s wedding was chosen.
“Hashem Will Send It”
Here is where it gets even more interesting. When we called her on Sunday morning, the day before her son’s wedding, to share the news, Liat broke down in tears. Overcome with emotion, she struggled to speak.
Liat shared something remarkable.
Just hours earlier, on Motzei Shabbos, she had spoken with her father. She told him she had no idea how she would manage the residual wedding expenses - especially the remaining payment for the wedding hall. Liat was missing 10,000 NIS. Her father listened and calmly reassured her, telling her not to worry, that “Hashem will send it.”
The Exact Amount, at the Exact Moment
The amount Liat received through the additional donation?
10,000 NIS.
This hashgacha pratit reminds us that when we come together to support families at their most vulnerable moments, we become partners in life changing chesed. Our donors’ compassion and generosity preserve dignity and make simcha possible, often at exactly the right time.
Making Dignified Simchas Possible
Adopt a Wedding helps thousands of families each year make dignified simchas for their children. But we couldn’t do it without our friends - our supporters and partners who ensure that “our families” don’t enter their wedding weighed down by despair. It’s donor support that transforms hardship into celebration and helps us more clearly see the hashgacha pratit that is all around us.
If this story moved you, consider being part of the next one. Your support helps ensure that when a family is standing at the brink, the help they need arrives - exactly when it’s needed most.
