Help an almana & her children through the hardest season
While coping with the heartbreaking loss of a husband and father, almanos (widows) raising children on their own face immense financial and emotional strain. With one parent responsible for earning a living, running a household, and caring for the family, even basic expenses become overwhelming. Rising costs of food, housing, clothing, and school needs leave many struggling to get by, where every purchase must be carefully considered and unexpected expenses can quickly deepen the crisis.
That's why our Keren Almanos is so critical. Throughout the year we provide monthly assistance tailored to each family's needs, helping widows keep their households stable and provide for their children’s day to day necessities. Funds are transferred directly into the almanos’ bank accounts, preserving dignity and eliminating unnecessary stress or embarrassment.
But the summer is especially hard.
When school is not in session, the financial pressures multiply. Fees for basic day camps and childcare programs are often out of the question. Food and utility bills rise as children spend more time at home. The costs of outings or activities are simply impossible for struggling widows to afford. What should be a season of fun instead becomes a period of stress, isolation, and disappointment for mothers and children alike.
So we increase our support during these months. Our
Almanos Summer Relief campaign does just what it says: provides vital relief in the summer -
extra funds in addition to the regular stipends these families receive. Extra aid helps almanos navigate the unique challenges of the season and give their children opportunities that would be out of reach without this support.
Our Almanos coordinator shares firsthand insight into the impact the assistance makes:
"The additional funding arrives at a time when families are already depleted, both financially and emotionally, offering a much-needed respite. It comes precisely as the pressures of the season - heat, fatigue, and the monotony of long days at home - become increasingly difficult for families to manage, particularly in single-parent households.
One almana recently shared, “To put it simply, you give me the opportunity to make my children happy.” For families who must account for every shekel, this assistance can feel transformative. It allows them small but meaningful choices - buying a bit more food, ordering takeout, or even taking a short break away from home. Importantly, this is not a voucher system; families are free to use the funds as they see fit, directing them toward whatever brings the greatest relief and benefit during this challenging period."
This year, the Almanos Summer Relief campaign is reaching 714 widows, expanding its impact at a time when the need is severe. The ability to pay for camp, for extra expenses in the home, or extra family activities offers relief, dignity, peace of mind, and the chance to create positive experiences for their children during a season that would otherwise be filled with tension and strain.
Join us in helping these families move through the summer with stability, care and resilience.
