The Power of Matanot L'Evyonim
Let's harness it to transform Purim for needy families across Israel!
Purim is the holiday of v’nahafoch hu - when in the time of Mordechai and Esther, fear turned into joy and despair turned into celebration.
It’s a day meant to be filled with simcha.
Purim is also one of the holiest days of the year, an opportune time to do mitzvot and chesed that help the needy, for whom the holiday is not quite as fun. Impoverished families struggle with the cost of the most basic groceries and expenses on a daily basis, so when Purim arrives, any sense of celebration is lost. Money for seudos, mishloach manot, or even a simple costume is non-existent, causing Purim to become a difficult day - quite the opposite feeling of a holiday. Children are left watching others celebrate while their own homes lack even the basics. Parents feel powerless and embarrassed.
Challenges related to war including the increase in taxes, electricity rates and food have caused the number of struggling families
to grow significantly.
Over the past three years, the cost of a basic family shopping basket in Israel has risen by about 20%, pushing nearly 27% of Israeli families into food insecurity. Against this backdrop, preparing for Purim becomes an overwhelming challenge for countless households.
As a leading charity for Israel, American Friends of Yad Eliezer/B’ezri works to alleviate poverty-related challenges for families as often,
and for as many needs, as possible.
With your help, our Matanot L’Evyonim program will provide tzedaka to struggling families so they can have full seuda tables and other holiday necessities. In true Purim style, we can transform their time of disappointment and discouragement into a day of great festivity.
The need is urgent-requests for our support come in non-stop.
Please join us so together, we can V’nahafoch Hu and make Purim the joyous holiday it should be!
