The Power of Matanot L'Evyonim
Israel is at war, history is unfolding and in the meantime, vulnerable families are suffering.
We need your help to harness the power of Matanot L'evyonim and transform Purim
for 800 almanos and 4000 needy families across Israel with nearly $1 million in urgent aid.
Purim is the holiday of v’nahafoch hu - when in the time of Mordechai and Esther, fear turned into joy and despair into celebration.
We are glimpsing it now, too.
But renewed conflict once again places needy families at the highest risk. Already struggling from a war economy - including increases in taxes, electricity rates and food - have caused the number of vulnerable Israeli families to grow significantly.
Over the past three years, the cost of a basic family shopping basket in Israel has risen by about 20%, pushing nearly 27% of families into food insecurity. Against this backdrop, and with the Iran conflict turning lives upside down, preparing for Purim becomes an overwhelming challenge for countless households.
Money for seudos, mishloach manot, or even a simple costume is non-existent, increasing the added strain of this Purim specifically. Children are still left watching others celebrate while their own homes lack even the basics. Parents feel powerless and embarrassed. Any sense of chag is lost.
As a leading charity for Israel, American Friends of Yad Eliezer/B’ezri works to alleviate poverty-related challenges for families as often,
and for as many needs, as possible.
With your help, our Matanot L’Evyonim program will provide tzedaka on Purim day to struggling families, so even with the tumultous events taking place they can still have full seuda tables and other holiday necessities - as much as other families can. In true Purim style, we can transform their time of anxiety into a day of festivity.
The need is severe-requests for our support are coming in non-stop.
Please join us so together, we can V’nahafoch Hu and make Purim joyous, especially now.
